Overview
This apprenticeship is for learners who wish to work with children. You will gain knowledge and practical skills in caring for children.
As an apprentice, you will be working in an early years setting such as a nursery or pre-school.
Will this course suit me?
An ideal student for this course is one who has a mature and professional attitude for the workplace. You will need to have good time management skills and be punctual. It is an advantage to be self motivated and to able to work independently. You must be committed to working with children.

How will it be delivered?
Throughout the course you will be assessed in the workplace to show competence to work with children. You will be expected to keep a portfolio of evidence. Your college work is assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods including taught sessions and written tasks set by CACHE.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including a minimum of Grade 4 in English Language and Maths and a clear DBS check.
You will also need to gain a suitable employer.
You can do this through searching for vacancies on our website http://www.sheffcol.ac.uk/apprenticeship/vacancies/ and applying directly to the employer. This will be followed by a competitive interview process. Or by approaching employers yourself to ask if they will take on an apprentice. Once you find a suitable employer you should contact the college with their details.

This is a professional qualification (or license to practice) which will enable you to seek employment in schools, private day care, pre-schools, or in relevant health and social care settings in positions of responsibility.
