Overview
This is a 1 year full time course.
About the course
This course is designed to encourage your understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. The programme will also help to develop life skills.
Part of the course will be about learning to develop parenting and life skills and how to interact with children with special educational needs or where English is an additional language. You will also have the opportunity to plan and prepare for the next steps in your learning journey.
The course will involve a combination of practical and written activities. There is no work experience or placement as part of this course. You will be required to study functional skills in English and Maths.
You will have the opportunity to undertake Forest Schools training (Outdoor education activities) and Human Trafficking awareness training, attend education trade exhibitions and help charity fund raising.
Will the course suit me?
In order to be successful on this course, you will need to be interested in child care and in children. You will need good attendance and punctuality and should be motivated and prepared to learn.

How will it be delivered?
The course is assessed using a range of methods; this could include tasks such as producing information charts, leaflets or written assignments.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at Grade 2 or above including English Language

Where can it lead?
On successful completion you could progress to a Level 2 Child Care course or to other courses at this level. It does not prepare you for a specific job role, but supports you in preparing for the next steps in education or training. To progress onto level 2 you will need to be ready for the workplace by having a mature attitude, excellent attendance, punctuality and motivation.
