This is a 1 year full time course.
About the course
You will learn about the key elements of video games development and gain insight into the fastest growing creative industry worldwide. You will learn how to produce game concepts, associated artwork, develop games environments in 3D and create playable games. You'll be able to create characters for games, promote your own work and understand the underlying need for narrative and storytelling. You will also develop digital design skills using a host of creative software packages including Adobe Creative Suite (Master Collection).
Approximately 30% of the course is theory and contextual work whilst 70% is practical. You will need to work independently on project work away from the college.
Where necessary you will be required to study Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English if you do not already hold a minimum of GCSE grade 4. (Many universities and employers ask for a minimum of GCSE grade 4 in both Maths and English).
The Design & Visual Arts Department is large and well equipped with highly trained staff, a customised print shop, digital and traditional darkrooms, Mac and PC suites, large, well-resourced studios, print making facilities and a variety of other resources. Equipment is available to hire, You can borrow cameras, graphics tablets, laptops and iPads from the stores. Students choosing to study at our Hillsborough campus will do so in our new multimillion pound creative centre.

An ideal student for this course is one who is motivated and curious by nature with a keen interest in the world of art and design. Prospective students should consider themselves to be creative and have some skill at drawing.

The next step could be an extended diploma qualification in Art and Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Media or Games Development.
