How will it be delivered?

Assessment is continuous throughout the course by a combination of case studies, assignments and work-based assessments. You will build a portfolio of evidence to support the tasks you complete at the workplace to demonstrate you can complete tasks safely and use knowledge learnt.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English Language and Maths.

You will also need to gain a suitable employer. You can do this through searching for vacancies on our website http://www.sheffcol.ac.uk/apprenticeship/vacancies/ and applying directly to the employer. This will be followed by a competitive interview process. Or by approaching employers yourself to ask if they will take on an apprentice. Once you find a suitable employer you should contact the college with their details.

Where can it lead?

Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust provides mental health services for adults and older people, services for people with learning disabilities and services for people with drug and alcohol misuse plus a wide range of specialist services. Although there is no guarantee of a job at the end of the programme, those who do well and gain good references from their tutors and placement usually go on to secure employment at the Trust, most commonly as Band 2 Health Care Assistants.

Many apprentices have gone on into specialist areas or advanced support staff roles. Others have progressed onto Access programmes and into Higher Education, including nurse training.
