Is this course for me?

The course is aimed at students looking to pursue a career within the area of sports coaching, development or teaching. you will be able to follow pathways in either Coaching, Exercise and Fitness or Physical Activity and Health.

What will I learn?

You will study a range of units aimed at development your skills and experience within the sports coaching industry such as:

  • The sport and active leisure industry
  • Training and fitness
  • Practical sport
  • Body systems and functions
  • Leading sports activities
  • Injury and the sports performer
  • Running a sports event

You will also have the opportunity to complete industry recognised qualifications (e.g. Sports Leaders Award and First Aid).

What else will I gain?

A brief outline of other opportunities e.g. work experience  

Throughout this practically based course you will take part in several trips and visits aimed at increasing your understanding of the range of job roles and opportunities within the sport and active leisure industry. In addition, you will complete a residential experience and community action project as part of a National Citizenship programme. This will help you to gain a range of skills and experiences that will support your career progression.

How will it be delivered?

Level 2 Sport courses are assessed mostly by course work and practical assessments however there will also be some exams.


Entry requirements

4 GCSE at grade 3 (or acceptable alternatives) including a minimum grade 3 in English language.

Your next steps...

Where can it lead?

On successful completion of your course you can progress onto a sport traineeship, a sports apprenticeship (e.g. Primary School Sports Coach) or higher level study. Other opportunities include junior/support roles within the sports coaching industry such as an assistant sports coach.
