You will study A Level Mathematics in your first year and then study A Level Further Mathematics in your second year. As well as allowing you to study Mathematics in more depth, Further Mathematics gives you a much broader mathematical background ensuring you are highly employable in all mathematical fields.
In Further Maths you will extend your study of Pure Mathematics to some new topics including complex numbers, matrices, hyperbolic functions and differential equations. In addition you will study two further aspects of Applied Mathematics which may be further Statistics, Mechanics or some Decision Maths. This will be determined by your other courses.
In addition to taught sessions students have the opportunity to take part in the UK Maths challenge, the Team Maths Challenge, attend the ‘Maths Inspiration’ events, participate in lectures by University staff and discover some Maths around ‘who I share my Birthday with’! Students are also invited to attend a series of lectures at Sheffield University for STEP preparation.
A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.
