The majority of us watch films at some point. This course gives you the knowledge and skills to understand how film
influences people and how the values of a society are reflected in film.
The Film Studies course is designed to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film; you will develop
skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection, as well as developing their creativity and practical skills.
Over the duration of the course you will study eleven full
length feature films and a compilation of eight short films.
Exploring film form/film production: You will learn how to
closely analyse and evaluate how meaning is created in
film.
British and American film: You will learn about all aspects
of the mainstream film business. You will study a range of
British and American film texts, and a comparison of two
British films.
Varieties of Film Experience: In this unit, you will also
explore: two film movements, including silent film; global
films; documentary film and; the short film.
Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and English Literature.
The skills learned in Film Studies are invaluable for most degree level subjects and careers. However, specific careers Film students have progressed onto careers
are television, radio, journalism, animation, computer software and game design.
