Overview
Along with a passion and talent for practical sport, A Level Physical Education allows a student to access a deeper
understanding of what makes great sporting performance. Students will understand the psychological and physiological
impacts on sport as well as the history behind certain sports and traditions.

What will I study?
The theory aspect of the course, on which you will be
assessed through examinations, includes:
• Physiological factors affecting performance
• Exercise Physiology
• Anatomy & Physiology
• Biomechanics
• Skill Acquisition
• Sports Psychology
• Sport in Society
• Contemporary Issues in Physical Activity and Sport
You will also carry out a practical performance and an oral
evaluation and analysis of a performance
Students will also take part in practical sessions which
will link into classwork and coursework. Aston is one of
the few establishments still to offer a practical session as
part of the course. To support this, each student will be
offered Sports Leaders Level 2 and 3.
How will it be delivered?
Examinations (70%)
Practical Performance and Oral Evaluation and Analysis of
Performance (30%)
Entry requirements
Grade 5 in Science and either English Language or English
Literature.
