The mechanical manufacturing course is designed for those who are seeking a career as a machinist in the engineering and manufacturing industries. Skilled machinists create precision parts used in manufacturing and engineering. As well as learning the fundamentals of engineering theory and manufacturing processes, you will gain experience in using the latest computer numerical control (CNC) machines tools to cut, drill and finish components.


You will mainly be based in the Training Centre for up to 12 months, which is one of the UK’s leading training centres' for manufacturing and engineering.

This time will enable you to gain high level skills whilst gaining on and off the job training.

Details

• Producing components using hand fitting techniques 

• Manual techniques (turning and milling) 

• Preparing and using lathes for turning operations 

• Preparing and proving CNC machine tool programs 

• Preparing and using CNC machines  


Note – As the entry requirements are 5 GCSE’s 4 and above, we would expect that you are working towards these grades or have already achieved these.

How will it be delivered?

Your qualification will be continually assessed through oral, observation, written and practical work.

Certification will be on completion of your portfolio of evidence. 

Entry requirements

You will need  5 GCSE’s grade 4 and above or A – C  including mathematics, English and science.
