Overview
What will I be studying?
At AS you will be studying the effects of disease on body systems and the causes of variation in living organisms at both cell and organism level. At A2 you will be studying the nervous and endocrine systems, homeostasis, genes and genetic expression, populations and ecosystems.
What does this subject involve?
There are three modules at AS:
Biology and Disease
The variety of living organisms
A Controlled Assessment Unit which involves an investigation.
There are a further three modules at A2:
Populations and Environment
Control in cells and in organisms
A Controlled Assessment Unit which involves an investigation.
Some statistical tests are taught during the two year course and are needed for the analysis of the A2 investigation. Practical work is an integral part of the course.

Your next steps...
A level Biology students have gone on to study the following related degree courses: natural sciences, medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, nursing, physiology, biomedical science, genetics, marine biology, equine studies and others. Some students go on to study an unrelated discipline such as Law; the range of generic skills developed in Biology makes this a feasible option.
