The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport provides learners with a vocational sport course that will develop the knowledge and skills to work within the sport and active leisure sector. You will be supported to pursue a career in sports coaching, teaching or fitness. This partnership programme unites a team of experienced education professionals at one of the top Colleges and Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme where you will study a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport which is accepted for entry to higher education courses and carries UCAS tariff points equivalent to 1.5/ 3 A levels.
Under the guidance of A license and B license qualiﬁed Sheﬃeld Wednesday academy coaches, the students have a structured training programme and weekly ﬁxtures against other Premier League and EFL clubs’ equivalent squads. Players are supported with their development and progression into an environment deemed best-suited for their personal development at that moment in time, with several players in the current programme already making the step up into semi-professional football.
A comprehensive football development programme allows for individual and team development through a detailed football curriculum with sessions across the week, including goal-keeping specialist coaching sessions. Players on the programme will have the opportunity to represent Sheﬃeld Wednesday Football Club against other professional clubs and local.
The programme is made up of 5 key elements; Sports studies, Enrichment, English and Maths, Work experience and a Football Development Programme.
The BTEC Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Sport (Coaching, Development & Fitness) provides learners with a vocational sport course that will develop the knowledge and skills to work within the football industry or broader sport and active leisure sector. In addition to classroom-based lessons and practical coaching sessions, you will be required to study independently to complete coursework assignments.

Enrichment opportunities contain access to the football development programme, additional qualifications and unique experiences. Within this academic year students have the opportunity to access; FA Level 1 Football coaching qualification, National Pool Lifeguard qualification, Level 2 in the development of multi-skills qualification, Manchester City Champions League games, Xscape SNOZONE sessions, USA scholarship programmes & USA coaching opportunities. In addition to these opportunities, students have an unrestricted, full-membership at BFIT gym located only 5 minutes away.
English & Maths will also be delivered alongside your sports studies. Students who achieve below a grade 4 will resit their GCSE English and/or Maths in order to gain a grade 4 or above.
As part of the course, you will be required to complete work experience in a variety of sports settings as well as performing various roles within the organisation of sports events.
Tutorial sessions are held weekly with students by our personal tutors. These crucial sessions aim to improve the wider development of our students within today's society. Money management, mental health, job searching and application, UCAS/ University and application, are just some of the sessions we hold.

The excellent facilities for our students include a; fully equipped fitness suite/ sports hall, gym access, 3G astroturf and modern-day classrooms.
Will the course suit me?- You should have a keen interest in sport and possess aspirations to work in the industry. Students who wish to take part in the football development programme should demonstrate a commitment and desire to the programme. You will need to have good time management skills in order to manage training, coursework and assignment deadlines.
5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language.
