English and maths
English and maths qualifications are a requirement for most jobs and it is important that you are able to demonstrate your ability in these areas. If you do not already have a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and maths you will automatically undertake further study in these subjects as part of your apprenticeship.
Where will I study?
You will study within the workplace and attend classes if required at Barnsley College’s Old Mill Lane Campus, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2YW.
You will be assessed through on-programme assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviour outcomes on-route to final synoptic end point assessment, consisting of:
an on demand test
- a practical observation
a professional discussion
You will need to be at least 16 years of age and must hold three GCSEs at grade A*-D, plus GCSE English Grade 3 or above.
It is desirable that you have English and maths at grade C or above but this is not essential as functional skills is delivered as part of the apprenticeship programme
You need to be employed within a retail setting or have an employer in this area willing to take you on as an apprentice
This apprenticeship provides an ideal stepping stone into specialist, team leading, supervisory or first line management roles within retail and higher level training and apprenticeships. Upon completion of this apprenticeship, you could progress onto the Retailer Team Leader apprenticeship.
