Overview

The course provides you with skills and knowledge to support the development of a highly qualified well skilled workforce within the children and young people’s sector, ensuring that children and young people gain the best possible care and support.

Details

You will study the units listed below until you reach a minimum of 58 credits. You will also study:

  • Employment, Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Booklet
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

  • Promote communication in health, social care or children?s and young people?s settings
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children?s and young people?s settings
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children?s and young people?s settings
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children?s and young
    people?s settings
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • The role of the health and social care worker
  • Promote person-centred approaches in health and social care
  • Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care
  • Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care settings
  • Optional units required

How will it be delivered?

You will be assessed by your assessor using a portfolio of evidence, observations in the workplace and assessment tasks. You will be assessed both in college and in your place of work.

Entry requirements

  • Learners will need to be at least 16 years of age. Some settings require you to have a suitable Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or Childcare and four GCSEs at grade A*-C plus GCSE English at grade 4 or above
  • It is desirable that you have English and maths at grade C or above but this is not essential as Functional Skills can be delivered as part of the Apprenticeship programme
  • You need to be employed within a health and social care setting or have an employer in this area willing to take you on as an apprentice
  • As your programme may involve working with children, you will be required to undertake a satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
