Overview

Site carpentry and joinery focus on the installation of the joinery components, and on the setting out and fabrication of timber elements used in construction

This course provides a general understanding of theory and develops the practical skills needed to work as a carpenter or joiner. This includes hanging doors, fixing architrave and skirting, constructing kitchen and bathroom units and setting out and fixing roofs

Details

You will study the following mandatory units:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing
  • Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs
  • Carry out second fixing operations
  • Carry out carpentry maintenance
  • Set up and operate a circular saw
  • You will complete 60 hours of work placement which will give you valuable work place experience.
  • A full tutorial programme to improve your employability skills and support you through your course.

How will it be delivered?

Throughout the study programme your work will be assessed for a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. Achieving this Diploma means that you have reached the standards expected by the industry.

Completion of Level 1 in Carpentry and Joinery
