Motor vehicle technicians repair and service cars, vans, motorbikes, lorries and coaches. They work on all vehicle mechanics and electrics, from engines and exhaust systems to air-conditioning and security. They carry out routine services and repairs, MOTs, roadside repairs and use diagnostic equipment to look for faults on vehicles.

For individuals who love to be around cars, becoming a motor vehicle technician is a dream job. Motor vehicle technicians repair and tune engines to maximum running efficiency, install parts and accessories, and repair dented body panels.

This engaging and motivating course is aimed at learners who have a keen interest to learn about maintenance of various types of transport and different roles that are available in the retail motor industry.

This qualification consists of a combination of units from:

  1. Carry out wheel alignment
  2. Inspect and replace exhaust components
  3. Remove and replace auxiliary electrical units
  4. Inspect and repair braking systems.
  5. Carry out routine vehicle maintenance

How will it be delivered?

Each unit is assessed by means of practical assessment, multiple choice online exams and written assessments.

Entry requirements

You must hold a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 including maths plus English at grade 2 or above.
