Overview

This programme can provide you with the opportunity to explore health and social care in its broadest context and aims to develop independent learners who are able to successfully progress in to health and social care related professions.

The qualification has been designed to develop knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the health and social care sectors and the roles played by workers from principles and values through to health and social areas such as learning disability or mental health.

These qualifications cover a wide range of key subject areas in health and social care. The Level 1 certificate, allows learners to decide on whether a career in health and social care is right for them and then progress onto Level 2 courses in the field.

Details

Students will complete 9 units, made up of 7 mandatory study units and 2 optional units.

Core units

  • Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • Understand the principles and values in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • Awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • Introduction to communication in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
  • Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health, social care and children's and young people's settings
  • Introductory awareness of health and safety in health, social care and children's and young people's settings
  • Introductory awareness of person-centred support in health, social care and children's and young people's settings

Specialist Units

  • Introductory awareness of working with others in health, social care and children's and young people's settings
  • Introductory awareness of the importance of healthy eating and drinking for adults

How will it be delivered?

You will be continually assessed on this programme through a wide variety of course work, which may take several forms e.g. an essay, a report, a presentation, and/or group work. Although there is no formal end examination, you will need to complete and achieve a minimum of a pass grade for all your assignment work to be awarded the CACHE Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings.

Entry requirements

  • Three GCSEs at grade 2 including English
  • You will also require a good reference from school
  • Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme.
