About the course
This course is designed to encourage your understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. The programme will also help to develop life skills.
The course will be about learning to develop parenting and life skills and how to interact with children. You will also have the opportunity to plan and prepare for the next steps in your learning journey.
The course will involve a combination of practical and written activities. You will be required to study functional skills in English and Maths.
Will the course suit me?
In order to be successful on this course, you will need to be interested in child care and in children. You will need good attendance and punctuality and should be motivated and prepared to learn.
Details
This qualification develops the basic skills needed to care for a baby or young child. There are a range of units from setting a routine through to healthy lifestyles and the importance of play and learning.
How will it be delivered?
You will be assessed by using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework or methods such as questioning.
Entry requirements
Preferably grade 1 or above in Maths & English Language.

On successful completion you could progress to a Level 1 Child Care course or to other courses at this level. It does not prepare you for a specific job role, but supports you in preparing for the next steps in education or training.
