Use your coding and programming skills to lead the way in designing the future of software development projects. There is a requirement for professional software developers that can work across a range of mediums such as smart computing, gaming, mobile devices and cross-functional applications or software and programming languages. This course aims to help you study the fundamental principles of software development whilst learning to tackle professional and practical issues. You will learn coding and software development processes and principles, understand requirements and specification analysis and explore a variety of software development life cycles. This course also helps to prepare you for a variety of careers in the field of software development as well as progress to apprenticeships or Higher Education.

The BTEC Diploma and Extended Diploma are structured into specialist pathways so that learners choose a route that relates to a career direction. This pathway, software development – includes an additional mandatory unit on software design and development

How will it be delivered?

The course offers a combination of assessment styles that include assignments set and marked by teachers which may include written work, observed practical tasks and projects.

External assessment includes written exams marked by the awarding body. The range of assessments means that you can demonstrate your achievement when supporting HE applications or to a potential employer.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths. Where applicants do not meet the entry requirements, the tutor may use their discretion based on a good personal

reference and/or successful interview.
