Simply, because it affects everything that you do. Studying Politics will give you a greater insight into society and the complexity surrounding decisions that are made. The course allows you to focus on some of today’s most interesting and significant issues and will give you a real insight into the workings of the modern world. You will take part in heated debates, participate in active learning, compete in team projects and express your ideas in written work.


Year One Topics:

People and Politics, Governing the UK. You will develop an understanding of the British political system and the nature of mass political and democratic participation. You will study elections, political parties, pressure groups and protest movements, the constitution, the role of Parliament, The Prime Minister and Cabinet, and voting behaviour and the Media

Year Two Topics:

Political Ideologies - nationalism and feminism, Global Politics and Globalisation. Could we do away with the government altogether? What are the implications of Brexit? Will Scotland have another Independence referendum? Why do only 65% of the electorate vote in elections?

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics and either English Language or English Literature.
