The welding and fabrication industry is embedded in every aspect of our lives, from the cars we drive to the construction of the buildings we work in. Welding, sheet metal fabrication and engineering industries require well-trained people capable of operating a broad range of welding equipment.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will benefit from a mix of classroom learning and practical work which will teach you how to join different metals using appropriate welding techniques. Throughout your time at the AMRC Training Centre, you will progress from basic welding skills to a more advanced level, as you develop your skills and knowledge.

You will be based in the Training Centre for up to 4 months, which is one of the UK’s leading training centres' for manufacturing and engineering.

This time will enable you to gain high level skills whilst gaining on and off the job training.


  • Fabrication welding – manual and automatic 

• Fabrication welding – manual plateworking 

• Preparing and using semi-automatic MIG, MAG and flux cored arc welding equipment 

• Producing sheet metal components and assemblies 

• Preparing and using manual TIG or plasma-arc welding equipment 

• Preparing and using manual metal arc welding equipment.

Note – As the entry requirements are 5 GCSE’s grade 5 and above or A – C,  would expect that you are working towards these grades or have already achieved the relevant qualifications.

How will it be delivered?

Your qualification will be continually assessed through oral, observation, written and practical work.

Certification will be on completion of your portfolio of evidence.
