Students enrolling on to this course will have the unique opportunity of becoming Academy Learners. Students will be given exclusive access to career talks, career advice and visits to the company and industry related work experience. Students who show their commitment to their studies and a good ability will be offered a Level 3 Engineering apprenticeship

Electricians fit and repair electrical circuits and wiring in people’s homes and businesses. They also install and maintain electrical equipment, instruments and machinery. If you are good with practical work, can follow technical plans and want a varied job, this could be a great career for you. You’ll also need to be well organised and understand the importance of safety regulations. To qualify as an electrician you will need to complete industry-recognised training and qualifications.


The course has mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units cover health and safety, environmental protection, installation methods, practical craft skills and electrical science. Optional units cover starting work in construction, preparing for an interview, managing study and developing learning skills.

This qualification will be obtained by the learner once they have achieved the units below:

Health and safety in electrical installation

Understand fundamental environmental protection measures within building services engineering

Installation methods, procedures and requirements

Electrical installation craft skills

Electrical science, principles and technology

Optional units: One group must be completed:

Starting work in construction

Preparing for an interview

Managing study and developing learning skills

How will it be delivered?

This qualification will be achieved when the learner has successfully completed the theory and practical assessments relating to the units.The learners ability in various aspects of basic electrical installation and related work skills covered in the units. The qualification is assessed by a mixture of on-screen exams, written assignments, and practical assessments. The qualification is not graded and the learner may only achieve a pass.

Entry requirements

 Maths grade 2 and English grade 2 or above You will have the chance to fast-track to year two after after sucessful completion of a six week assessment period. Alternatively, you will complete this course in Year 1 and move onto Level 2 in your second year
