The Fashion and Clothing Extended Diploma is a practical, work related course. You will produce work which investigates and develops both your creativity and theoretical knowledge of fashion and clothing.
By the end of the second year you will produce a portfolio of practical fashion and clothing projects which you will showcase in our end of year exhibition.
You will produce a portfolio of design work including a sample folder of techniques, pattern cutting work and a small catwalk collection. You will also get the chance to go on educational and gallery visits.
Units of study may include:
Drawing development and design method
- Historical and contextual studies
- Pattern cutting and development
- Fashion marketing
- Computers in art and design
- Design realisation
Your work will be assessed throughout the course, both internally and by an external moderator. At the end of each studio module you will present a folder of work for discussion and grading.
The final major project is exhibited as part of the Arts Festival in June/July which is open to the public. In order to gain a full Extended Diploma you must pass all the course units.
Employment – This course can form the foundations for a range of creative occupations including fashion designer and entrepreneur.
Education – You could progress to study a variety of Fashion and Textiles, Art, Design and Crafts disciplines at either Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) Level.
