Overview

Wanting to combine your passion for football with a career in the sports industry? This NCFE Level 2 qualification in sport give learners the introductory skills to either start a career in sport or progress with their academic studies within this sector. This 1-year qualification prepares learners with the underpinning knowledge and practical competence that allows them to progress of level 3 recognised qualifications.

Delivered across a variety of state-of-the-art sites throughout Sheffield, by qualified teaching staff and coaches, this course offers both talented and recreational young football players the opportunity to study whilst actively participating in a football development programme.

Details

The Level 2 Diploma in Sport is a specialist work related course built around the NCFE platform. The course aims to build knowledge of practical sports performance, training and personal fitness, anatomy and physiological, health and exercise, sports coaching and sports community volunteering. This course particularly suits those wanting to enter employment and/or undertake further study in the sport and active leisure sector as you will gain valuable work experience, continue to study English and mathematics and complete a variety of NGB recognised coaching qualifications. 


Sheffield United Community Foundation

The course is currently delivered across two purposely selected sites including; SGP Westfield and Handsworth FC. Lessons, tutorials and workshops will be delivered on-site within our newly designed learning hubs. The Football programme will utilise excellent sporting facilities which include fully equipped fitness suites, 4G outdoor pitches and changing rooms. The student’s bespoke timetable combines their academic and practical study with work experience, tutorials sessions, work experience, as well as the football training and match programme.

You will learn from highly qualified staff with a range of academic and sport specific backgrounds within sport science, health, coaching, and fitness industries. Students will benefit from a broader range of local, regional and national connections available through the community foundations associated partners. 

During your study you will have numerous opportunities to undertake additional vocational awards and workshop designed to help facilitate your personal and professional development. This includes coaching and fitness qualifications, tutorial sessions, NCS, employability and progress events, as well as numerous trips and rewards. 

For accreditation purposes Sheffield United community Foundation deliver their educational qualifications in partnership with Sheffield College and the English Football Leagues’ ‘League Football Education’ programme.

  Most units are assessed through a portfolio of assignments which are submitted via our interactive learning platforms in a variety of formats to suit individuals preferred learning styles; these include written reports, posters, practical sports, demonstrations, group tasks, interviews, practical coaching, presentations, work experience, projects and performance observation.


Course Achievement

80% of all level 2 learners from the 2019/20 cohort have progressed onto our internal Level 3 study programme.


How will it be delivered?

The NCFE Level 2 qualification is comprised of seven units that are completed throughout the academic year. All units will be internally assessed through assignments set and marked by tutors. Upon completion of each internally assessed unit, the tutor will inform the learner of what grade they have achieved (either Pass, Merit or Distinction). When all the units of the course have been completed, the learner will receive an overall grade for the qualification. This is the grade that will be shown on the certificate and the one that should be used when applying for higher education or employment. 

The course comprises both classroom and practical, sport-based learning and features various assessment methods that will prepare you for further academic study. Most units are assessed through assignments which are submitted via our interactive learning platforms in a variety of formats; these include written reports, posters, practical sports, demonstrations, group tasks, interviews, practical coaching, presentations, work experience, projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments.

Entry requirements

  • An interest towards playing regular football and to study a sport related qualification
  • There are no pre-requisites qualifications required to begin your NCFE Level 2 course.
