This apprenticeship will develop the skills and competencies which are key to providing quality and compassionate care for the less able and/or vulnerable people.

Adult Care workers may specialise in a variety of areas such as learning disability, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, support for the elderly, homecare, dementia and end-of-life care.


The Adult Care Worker apprenticeships are designed to develop your knowledge (know it) and skills (show it) which are essential for the role and must be demonstrated through your behaviours (live it).

These behaviours include:

• Care – Caring enough and consistently about individuals to make a positive difference to their lives.

• Compassion – Delivering care and support with kindness, consideration, dignity, empathy and respect.

• Courage – Doing the right thing for people and speaking up if the individual you support is at risk.

• Communication – This is central to successful caring relationships and effective team working.

• Competence – Applying knowledge and skills to provide high quality care and support.

• Commitment – Committing to improving the lives of people who need care and support.

How will it be delivered?

This apprenticeship is assessed by:

• Situation Judgement Test

• Portfolio of Evidence + Professional Discussion

Each assessment is weighted 50/50 and will be graded as a pass, merit or distinction.

Your next steps...

After completing this apprenticeship, you may be offered a permanent job role. You could also go on to study a higher level apprenticeship programme in Health and Social Care or Management.
