Is this course for me? 

This course will suit you if you have a passion for music and wish to develop your practical skills in music performance, composition, production and recording.

What will I learn?

The course has a strong focus on the practical skills required to work within the industry, and you will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of musicians across a range of styles and genres performing in venues throughout the city. You will also develop your skills in composition and production through the creation of your own creative work and the use of our professionally equipped recording studio. You will also study how music business functions to help you understand and prepare for a broad range employment opportunities available within the industry.

Your final grades will be based on your work for a Final Major Project. This will be a collaborative project, where you can specialise on an area of your choice. 


What else will I gain? 

You will be given the opportunity to engage with people working within different areas of the industry through trips and visits.

The music department has industry standard facilities and you will have access to a state of the art recording studio, practice facilities and fully equipped classrooms running a range of industry standard software. This course is run by musicians for musicians and all of your lecturers have both the professional qualifications and relevant industry experience to help provide you with the skills that you need to develop professionally.  

How will it be delivered?

The course is assessed through coursework therefore students need to have good time management skills and be able to work to deadlines. Coursework includes practical group and solo performances, presentations and written assignments. Your work will be used to create an online portfolio of your work, which can be used to promote your music.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English Language. You should play a musical instrument or sing/rap and this will be assessed through audition.

Where will it lead?

The high level of satisfaction of students taking this course is reflected in the number who choose to progress with us to the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music to help further their studies. Alternatively, the course will help build a strong foundation for those wanting to pursue a career in performing, composing or sound engineering.
