Course Summary

You will study a broad range of literary texts from different time periods. This will develop your critical thinking skills about universal human themes and your ability to construct a convincing argument.

Course Details

You will study a wide range of literary texts from the 16th century up to the present day. These will come from the three disciplines of poetry, prose and drama. You will study the works of two comparable poets from the twentieth century and then another poet from an earlier time. You will study two plays that have a similar theme as well as a whole Shakespeare play. You will also study prose from two key periods.

You will develop your critical reading and writing skills through a coursework unit where you choose your own texts from a list prescribed by the exam board.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and English Literature.
