A Level Mathematics

In this course you will study Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. You will be entered for the AS level in the first year. Two thirds of the course is Pure Mathematics, this will extend your knowledge of topics such as algebra, proof, sequences and series, coordinate geometry and trigonometry.

You will also learn new concepts such as calculus and exponentials and logarithms. Statistics will build on and extend your data and probability knowledge and will introduce statistical distributions and hypothesis testing. Mechanics is the application of pure mathematics to everyday events; it concerns the way the forces interact and the motion they cause.

Themes covered include:

• Pure: Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and Numerical Methods
• Applied: Statistics and Mechanics

A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.

Examinations at the end of the first and second year.

5 GCSEs to include English and grade 4 and at least a grade 6 in Maths

A Level Maths is essential for Higher Education courses in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Mathematics itself. It is also highly desirable for Science and Social Sciences, any medically-related qualification, Business and Accounting. It also leads to apprenticeships and careers in many areas including Accountancy.
