Course Summary

Photography has become an essential part of how we communicate and comprehend the world around us. This course aims to provide students with opportunities to develop a wide range of traditional and contemporary technical skills within Photography.

Alongside this, students will develop and conceptualise an understanding of; wider theory, creative contexts, and implement their conceptualisation into the production and refinement of their individual work. Units of work will cover experimental printing processes, darkroom techniques and digital processes using industry standard programs.

Course Details

The techniques and processes student will explore will cover the following areas:

  • Portraiture
  • Landscape photography (working from the urban, rural and/or coastal environment)
  • Still life photography (working from objects or from the natural world)
  • Documentary photography, photojournalism
  • Fashion photography
  • Experimental imagery
  • Multimedia
  • Photographic installation
  • Moving image (video, film, animation).

A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Formal assessment of A Level Photography takes place in the second year.

Component 1: Personal investigation

Component 2: Externally set assignment

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs (including English and Maths) at grade 4 or above.
