Course Description

In Y12 and Y13 all students will complete work to gain a qualification equivalent to 1 A level.

Units for Extended Certificate

1: Principles and applications of Biology (Exam based)

2: Principles and applications of Chemistry (Exam based)

3: Principles and applications of Physics (Exam based)

4: Practical Scientific procedures and Techniques (coursework based)

Plus an optional unit - (Coursework based)

Unit 5: Science investigation skills

Unit 6: Contemporary issues in Science

Qualification

Level 3 Applied Science

1 A level equivalent = Extended Certificate



How will it be delivered and assessed?

The exam component is assessed by written examinations using a variety of assessment styles so you can confidently engage with the questions, including multiple choice, short and long answer questions.

There will be a minimum of 10% maths questions in the exams (including some AS statistics)

Coursework units are set and marked by your teachers (with some work sent to the exam board to check grades are awarded accurately)





Entry requirements

5-5-5 (separate sciences) or 5-5 for combined science.

5s in English Language and Maths (strong 4s considered)





Your next steps...

This course lays the groundwork for further study in science based courses e.g. engineering, nursing, pharmacy, laboratory based courses etc, although many students have also gone onto study non science based qualifications such as law, teaching etc.
