This is a one year full time course.

About the course

The Diploma in Bricklaying is designed to prepare people to enter the construction industry as bricklayers. The course will give you a thorough grounding in the practical aspects of bricklaying. Students must start at level 1 to gain the necessary skills before progressing to level 2.

You will study general units in carrying out safe working practices in construction, information, quantities and communicating with others, building methods and construction technology.

You will also cover brickwork specific units in carrying out basic block laying skills, carrying out basic bricklaying skills, carrying out basic cavity walling, contributing to setting out and building basic masonry structures up to damp course level.

You will need to bring your own overalls and safety boots for workshop sessions. All other safety equipment will be provided.

Functional Skills lessons also form an important part of your course. They include Maths and English. You will attend lessons to help improve your skills in these areas. There will be a formal assessment when you are ready.

Personal Study Time

Students are expected to work independently on project work away from the college.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Knowledge is assessed using on line exams, and also by oral questioning during practical assessments.

Practical assessments will be carried out in the workshop following training and practice in the required competencies.

4 GCSEs at Grade 2 or above, including English Language
