Course Summary

Business

This course is for anyone who is interested in developing their understanding of how the world works. This course gives a great understanding of businesses of all different sizes and entrepreneurship skills and qualities.

Course Details

You’ll learn all about the inner workings of the businesses you see around you every day, from your corner shop to global brands such as Nike. You’ll learn how businesses plan for the future, how they stay ahead of the competition, how they manage their resources and what people bring into the mix.

Theme 1: Marketing and people (customer needs, marketing activity, demand and supply concepts in addition to human resources)

Theme 2: Managing business activities (financial and resource planning and management)

Theme 3: Business decisions and strategy (objectives, growth and decision making)

Theme 4: Global business (globalisation, global marketing and multinational organisations)

You will learn valuable transferable skills such as presentation skills, communication skills, analytical thinking and the ability to make supported judgements.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

3 two hours papers.

Paper 1 – Theme 1 and 4

Paper 2 – Theme 2 and 3

Paper 3 - will assess content across all four themes. Questions will be drawn from local, national and global contexts. This will be based on a pre-released context document that is published in November prior to sitting the final examination. Students will need to investigate the industry in context independently to prepare for this exam.


Entry requirements

5 or above in Mathematics and English Language or English Literature.

If successful you can access an extremely wide range of possible careers, including law, management, accountancy, politics, finance, economics and sport management. These can be through various pathways such as Level 4 Degree, Apprenticeships, Traineeships or employment

A level Business will open up many and varied opportunities at degree level, in addition to providing superb employability skills needed for today’s dynamic economic conditions.
