Course Summary

Level 3 certificates in Applied Science are accepted by many universities worldwide as A-level equivalents. Employers and universities highly value the practical, real-world skills the learners demonstrate. It will lay the foundations for your future career.
Course Details
At UTC Sheffield we offer the Level 3 Cambridge Advanced National in Applied Science. This specific qualification is the equivalent of an AS level or 8-28 UCAS points depending on your result.
You will study 2 units: a) Fundamentals of Science; and b) Investigating Science
Both units cover the fundamentals of all three sciences: adding more depth, detail and skill to the theoretical and practical concepts you covered at GCSE.
The size and scope of this qualification is a perfect fit to study alongside technical qualifications in Engineering or Creative Digital Media.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Your understanding will be assessed through a mix of exams, practical work and assignments set by your teacher.
50% of the course is assessed by external assessment and 50% is assessed by coursework. The external assessments take place in January or May.
Entry requirements
You would be most likely to be accepted into the course if you have:
5 GCSEs at good grades (at least grade 4) including a minimum of 5-5 in combined science
achievement in English and mathematics through GCSE to at least grade 4
