How will it be delivered and assessed?

At UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, the OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity (Sport Studies) is delivered through a combination of classroom-based theory and practical learning closely linked to the sports industry.
Students studying the Extended Certificate, Diploma, and Extended Diploma all learn together in shared classes. Teaching is carefully structured so that each student completes only the units required for their qualification level across the two years.
Learning takes place in UTC OLP’s specialist sport and science facilities, with access to industry-standard equipment and strong partnerships with organisations such as Sheffield Hallam University, the English Institute of Sport, and professional sports clubs. These partnerships give students valuable opportunities for practical experience, live projects, and engagement with industry professionals.
Assessment is a blend of coursework and external exams. Most units are internally assessed through assignments, reports, and practical activities, which are then externally moderated by OCR to ensure consistency and quality. Some units are externally assessed through formal exams or set tasks.
This applied and flexible delivery model allows students to combine their sport qualification with A Levels or other vocational courses, gaining both academic knowledge and practical experience. It provides a strong foundation for future study or careers in sport, coaching, fitness, health, and physical education.
