How will it be delivered and assessed?

At UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, the OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Sport Studies) is delivered through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical, industry-focused experience. The course provides students with the skills, knowledge, and understanding needed to progress into university or careers within the sport, fitness, and health sectors.

Students studying the Extended Diploma, Diploma, and Extended Certificate are taught together in shared classes. Teaching is carefully organised so that each learner completes the units relevant to their qualification level across the two years.

Learning takes place in UTC OLP’s specialist sport and science facilities, with access to industry-standard equipment and strong partnerships with organisations such as Sheffield Hallam University, the English Institute of Sport, and professional sports clubs. These partnerships offer students exceptional opportunities for practical experience, live projects, and industry engagement.

Assessment combines coursework and external exams. Most units are internally assessed through assignments, practical demonstrations, and written reports, which are then externally moderated by OCR to maintain national standards. Some units are externally assessed through exams or set tasks.

This structured and applied approach gives students both academic understanding and hands-on experience, preparing them for university study or careers in areas such as sports science, coaching, physiotherapy, fitness instruction, and sports development.
