Course Summary
Core Maths is intended for students who have passed GCSE Mathematics at grade 4 or better, but who have not chosen to study A level Mathematics. The qualification would be taken over one year and is equivalent to an AS Level in terms of UCAS points.
Course Details
Designed to maintain and develop real-life mathematics skills, what students study can be applied on a day-to-day basis whether in further study or employment. Includes topics such as:
• Financial Maths
• Statistics & Probability
• Critical Analysis
• Modelling (spreadsheets)
• Estimation
How will it be delivered and assessed?
2 exams at the end of 1 year of study.
Entry requirements
Students who have a grade 4 or above at GCSE can study the Core Maths course.
Your next steps...
The course will include a financial mathematics element and can help with other A level subjects, including science, geography, business studies, economics and psychology. It also supports many further education qualifications which rely on being able to perform critical analysis and use statistics effectively as well as providing useful skills used in many workplaces.
