Course Summary

This qualification is designed to provide a technical introduction to digital film and video production. Learners develop skills in areas such as single and multi-camera techniques, sound recording and film

editing.

This qualification is for post-16 learners who are looking to progress to higher or degree apprenticeships, employment or

to further education and training.

- Stop motion Animation

- Film Editing

- Storyboarding

Students will also learn the full range of Adobe Creative Cloud software and FX techniques to equip themselves with transferable computer skills for today’s ICT based employment.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

The styles of external assessment used for qualifications in the creative digital media production

suite are:

• examinations – all learners take the same assessment at the same time, normally with a

written outcome

• set tasks – learners take the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate

understanding through completion of a vocational task

• performance – learners prepare for assessment over an extend

Ideally 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths

Depending on the optional units taken, this qualification provides preparation for entry level roles in

the digital film and video production industry, such as:

• production runner/assistant

• post-production runner

• broadcast assistant

• animation assistant

• Games Designer

• Games Programmer

• Games Tester

• assistant to the camera crew.

If taken alongside additional Level 3 qualifications, learners could increase their professional

industry skills and competencies, and have increased responsibilities in the above job roles.

Additional qualifications could include:

• Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Performing Arts

• Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Art and Design

• AS/A Level Business Studies.

There are many roles in this sector where recruitment is at graduate level. The qualification carries

UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission

requirements for many relevant courses. For example, if taken alongside A Levels in English and

business studies, or a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in a relevant field of study, such as music

or art and design, it could lead to a:

• BA (Hons) in Film and Television Production

• BA (Hons) in Film and Animation

• BSc (Hons) in Film Production Technology.

Learners may also progress to a higher and degree apprenticeship.

Entry requirements for degree programmes should always be checked with specific higher

education providers.
