Economics underpins our lives – from questions such as “Can we afford a free NHS?”, to “How come some business owners earn million pound bonuses?” An interest in current affairs is essential, together with a willingness to learn and apply economic models and ideas to a variety of contexts.

You wonder how should we allocate our resources to cater for the needs of over 7 billion people?

You are interested in how institutions like the NHS/schools are funded and how this relates to taxes

What will I be studying?

Theme 1: introduction to markets and market failure

Theme 2: The UK Economy: Performance and Policies

Theme 3: Business Behaviour and the labour market

Theme 4: A Global Perspective

How will I be assessed?

Year 12: One paper on microeconomics and one paper on macroeconomics

Year 13: Three papers of two hours: Paper 1 (micro), Paper 2 (macro) and Paper 3 (micro & macro)

Grade 6 in Mathematics

What subjects go with Economics? Economics complements many subjects such as History and Politics.

Where could it lead me? With further study, Economics provides a strong foundation for a career in finance, banking, accounting or policy-making.
