What is Manufacturing Engineering?
It’s about using science and maths to solve real-world problems and create innovative solutions. In essence, engineering is the art of applying scientific and mathematical principles to develop efficient and effective solutions to everyday problems.
Why study Manufacturing Engineering?
Contrary to common understanding, the Engineering sector continues to suffer from a skills gap and needs to keep up with rapidly developing technologies. BTEC Engineering is designed to give new entrants to the engineering sector the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern manufacturing Engineering industries.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course consists of 4 units: 2 are externally assessed 2 are internally assessed.
Externally assessed units:
• Unit 1: Engineering Principals.
• Unit 3: Engineering product design and manufacture.
Mandatory Internally assessed units:
• Unit 2: Delivery of engineering processes safely as a team.
Optional internally assessed units (only one of these is done):
• Unit 41: Manufacturing secondary machining processes.
• Unit 44: Fabrication manufacturing processes.
Entry requirements
The Academy’s general entry criteria of a minimum of five 4s at GCSE apply. A grade 5 in Maths and a grade 5 in combined science/separate science and/or BTEC Level 2 Merit is needed to study Engineering.
