The welding and fabrication industry is embedded in every aspect of our lives, from the cars we drive to the construction of the buildings we work in. Welding, sheet metal fabrication and engineering industries require well-trained people capable of operating a broad range of welding equipment.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will benefit from a mix of classroom learning and practical work which will teach you how to join different metals using appropriate welding techniques. Throughout your time at the AMRC Training Centre, you will progress from basic welding skills to a more advanced level, as you develop your skills and knowledge.

in the first year you will complete 2 week blocks at AMRC Training Centre and then 2 week blocks with your employer. This allows you to build up your experience and apply the skills you are learning to your workplace. in the second and third years you will be based with your employer and day release with the Training Centre.


Course Details

  • Fabrication welding – manual and automatic

• Fabrication welding – manual plate working

• Preparing and using semi-automatic MIG, MAG and Stick Welding techniques

• Producing sheet metal components and assemblies

• Preparing and using manual TIG or plasma-arc welding equipment

• Preparing and using manual metal arc welding equipment.

The entry requirements are Maths and English GCSE grade 4 and above. You will also have to pass an assessment test and interview and will need an employer before you can start your apprenticeship. Please note we require proof of qualifications and Right to work in the UK.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your qualification will be continually assessed through oral, observation, written and practical work.

You will achieve your apprenticeship on completion of the Knowledge, skills, Behaviours and End Point Assessment.

Entry requirements

You will need Maths and English GCSE Grade 4 and above.

You will also need to pass an assessment and interview. You will need an employer before you can commence your apprenticeship programme.
