The mechanical manufacturing course is designed for those who are seeking a career as a machinist in the engineering and manufacturing industries. Skilled machinists create precision parts used in manufacturing and engineering. As well as learning the fundamentals of engineering theory and manufacturing processes, you will gain experience in using the latest computer numerical control (CNC) machines tools to cut, drill and finish components.

In the first year you will do block release of up to 38 weeks at the training centre. After this you be day release to the training centre.


Course Details

• Producing components using hand fitting techniques

• Manual techniques (turning and milling)

• Preparing and using lathes for turning operations

• Preparing and proving CNC machine tool programs

• Preparing and using CNC machines


Note – As the entry requirements are 5 GCSE’s 5 and above, we would expect that you are working towards these grades or have already achieved these.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your qualification will be continually assessed through oral, observation, written and practical work.

You will achieve your apprenticeship on completion of the Knowledge, Skills, Behaviours and End Point Assessment

Entry requirements

You will need Maths and English GCSE Grade 4 and above.

We will need to see proof of your qualifications and Right to work in the UK. You will also need an employer before you can start your apprenticeship.
