Course Summary

This is a one year full time course.

About the course

ESOL courses are available at preparation, pre-entry, entry 1, entry 2, entry 3, level 1 and level 2. Students will be invited into college to complete an initial assessment to determine their current level so that they can be placed on the most appropriate level of ESOL course.

It is an intensive English course covering the main areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. It will help students learn and use key vocabulary and grammatical structures and to apply them in everyday situations. In addition students will study maths and IT.

The course is classroom based working in groups. Our staff are supportive, friendly and experienced in working with young learners recently arrived in the UK or with those who have little previous experience of English Language learning.

Will this course suit me?

These courses are aimed at 16-18 year olds with little previous experience of English Language or those whose English is a barrier to further academic or vocational progression.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course is assessed by exam. Students are examined separately for Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing. Students must successfully complete all three parts to progress onto the next level.

Entry requirements

Students are required to attend an assessment at College to help determine the correct level for them.

Where can it lead?

Students would normally progress through the levels until they reach entry 3 when they will have the opportunity to progress on to a vocational course at entry level or level 1. Alternatively they can continue to consolidate their English Language skills at level 1 and level 2 enabling them to enter a vocational course at a higher level.
