Course Summary

Students with a passion for film, who want to analyse a range of classic and contemporary films from the niche to the mainstream.

Course Details

You will learn about the following topics:

• Old Hollywood and New Hollywood

• American film: Mainstream and Independent

• British film

• Global cinema: European and Non-European

• Documentary film

• Silent cinema

• Experimental film

• The basics of filmmaking: how to make and evaluate your own film


How will it be delivered and assessed?

70% of grade: two end-of-course exams (2 hours 30 minutes each)
30% of course: one Non-Exam Assessment comprising a short film production and written evaluative analysis.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in one or more of the following subjects:

• GCSE media studies

• GCSE English language

• GCSE English literature
