Course Summary

Foundation Learning is a pathway for you to develop your skills for life and the world of work. They are supported courses that enable you to develop your independent living skills and your social, emotional and personal development. You will take part in practical options including cooking and art and you will also have the opportunity to develop your English and Maths skills. Some courses on this pathway also have a supported placement attached to enable you to develop your skills and confidence in the workplace.

This pathway is split into a number of programmes. When you apply for this pathway, please indicate which programme you are most interested in studying. Our Inclusion Team will decide which programme within the pathway is most suitable for you after discussions at an interview. This will be based on your entry requirements, support need and targets for future outcomes.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements onto the Foundation learning pathway include:

having a level of understanding which means you can take part in discussions in classroom with staff and peers

being able to follow 1 – 2 step instructions

being able to communicate own needs to others

being able to make choices between at least three given options

an ability to carry out some tasks independently

willingness to participate in a variety of tasks

Some of the courses require a willingness and proven readiness to manage in a supported work environment.

Entry onto the Supported Internship requires learners to have an active Education and Health Care Plan.
