Course Summary
Course Description
The A level Geography course includes a mix of physical and human geography. Fieldwork is an integral part of the course, as is the ability to use and manipulate data. Students will develop an understanding of physical and human processes and also knowledge of contrasting places in the world. Students are required to write at length and use evidence to support their points. Students are required to complete an individual fieldwork project.

Geography A level results are consistently good. In 2024 95% of students achieved A*- C.

There will be four compulsory fieldwork days. Two will require students to pay for the bus/tram. The coastal fieldwork and the carbon fieldwork will require a payment of approximately £70 for the two trips. Students in receipt of the bursary can claim this cost back.
Trips, visits and extra-curricular
Field work carried out in and around Sheffield and local areas. Four days of field work are a compulsory element requirement of the course. The trips include:
- Kelham Island and the University of Sheffield (Urban)
- Parkhill and Attercliffe (Changing Places)
- Burbage North (Water and Carbon)
- Hornsea (Coasts)
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Two written exams and one piece of coursework in the style of an independent investigation
Paper 1: Physical Geography (40%) 2hr 30min exam
Paper 2: Human Geography (40%) 2hr 30min exam
Independent investigation (20%) completed during year 13.
Entry requirements
5 in GCSE Geography and at least a grade 5 in English Language or English Literature (due to the written requirement of the course)
