This is a new qualification designed for students interested in health and social care aiming to progress to higher education and graduate recruitment.
Course Description
If you are interested in pursuing a career which involves working with other people, whether this is within a Hospital and Healthcare setting or maybe Social Work or Teaching, then this is the course for you!
There are more than 300 distinct career paths within this sector. More than 80% of our Health and Social Care students continue their studies on degree courses at University. Courses include: Midwifery, Nursing (adult and child), Health and Human Sciences, Social Work, Criminology, Education Studies (Teaching) and Operation Department Practice.
This course is the equivalent to one A-Level and is widely accepted by Universities. This course would work well with many other subjects from Social Science to DEC.

Course Content and Teaching Units
You will be studying a range of units in relation to Health and Social Care, some of the units you may study are listed below:
- Unit 1 - Human Lifespan and Development
- Unit 2 - Human Biology and Health
- Unit 3 - Principles of Health and Social Care Practice
- Unit 7 - Health Science
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The qualification is built up from a combination of external exams and internally marked coursework. The coursework has a significant impact on the overall grade, therefore this course would suit learners who prefer project based work.
Entry requirements
Merit at BTEC Level 2 Health and Social Care if studied.
5 in GCSE Biology or 5-5 in combined science, 5,4 will be considered if the Biology component is strong. 5 in English Language and Maths preferred.
