Course Summary

A Level Music is a subject which will allow you to further develop the listening, composing and performing skills that you will have aquired through studying GCSE Music.

Component 1: Performing (30%)

Final Performance of 10-12 minutes (solo or ensemble or both) of Grade 6 standard – Non Examined Coursework marked by external examiner.

Component 2: Composing (30%)

Two compositions; the first will be a free choice and the second will be to a chosen brief (non-examined assessment (NEA)).

Component 3: Appraising (40%)

Covering two to four set works and three areas of study: listening; analysis and essay writing. You will be assessed through a 2.5 hour exam.

To fulfil your potential at A Level Music it is essential that you are regularly involved within the school’s extra-curricular activities and musical performance opportunities in the wider community.

Entry requirements

To secure a place at our Post-16 Centre you will need five or more GCSE passes at Grade 5 or above and a minimum of a Grade 4 in both English Language and Mathematics. You will also need a Grade 5 at GCSE (or equivalent vocational qualification) for most subjects you want to study at A Level.
