Course Summary
This course suits students who are actively competing in one sport and want to share their passion for sport, linking it to the theoretical aspects of PE. The course teaches students how performers excel in sport and helps them to relate this theory to their own performance
Course Details
Topics studied include:
Applied anatomy and physiology
Exercise physiology
Biomechanics
Skill Acquisition
Sports Psychology
Sport and society
Contemporary issues in physical activity and sport
How will it be delivered and assessed?
There are 3 external examinations
Physiological factors affecting performance- 2 hour written paper (30% of total A level)
Psychological factors affecting performance- 1 hour written paper (20% of total A level)
Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport-1 hour written paper (20% of total A Level)
Non-exam Assessment
This is split into 2 sections
• Performance in physical education-assessment of performance or coaching in one sport
• Evaluation and Analysis of Performance for Improvement task.
This accounts for 30% of total A Level.
Entry requirements
A successful student is likely to have studied physical education and obtained at least a GCSE grade 5 as well as at least a grade 5 in English language and science.
It is not essential to have taken GCSE PE.
