About the course
With a Plumbing Apprenticeship, you will learn about the installation and maintenance of plumbing systems and components. You will also take a certificate in basic plumbing skills, covering safety, cold water and hot water systems, sanitation, central heating and commissioning and de-commissioning of plumbing systems. Also you will learn about maintaining a safe working environment when undertaking non-complex plumbing work activities. In the 3rd and 4th year you will work on more complex plumbing systems, un-vented hot water and water regulations. You could be working in either a domestic or commercial setting to develop your skills as a plumber.
The day you are in college you will practice and develop the skills acquired in the workplace. You will be doing some workshop sessions and some theory sessions learning about how to do new tasks. There will also be some practical assessment tasks that take place at college. You will have chance to work on your portfolio and write up what you have learnt on the job. You will need to provide boots and overalls for the workshops sessions.
You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week, which includes a one day a week attendance at college. Functional Skills qualifications will be delivered in college.
You are encouraged to look for your own placement. The College will help to find a suitable placement but the emphasis is on you.

What students say about this course.
"When I left school I wanted to do something practical with a hands on approach. I decided to work with my dad at his company. I think the apprenticeship scheme at The Sheffield College is good, as you earn money while learning skills and gaining qualifications with on-site experience."
