Course Summary

This course has been designed in conjunction with a leading IT service company for students who wish to start a career in the IT/Computing industry with an emphasis on the Networks and Cyber Security route. We have excellent facilities and opportunities for work experience at leading companies. The course features several trips out to companies and visiting speakers will come in and discuss live projects.

Course Details

There has never been a better time to start an IT/Computing career with opportunities locally and globally in the fastest growing industry of the 21st century.

This course consists of 13 units delivered over 2 years and is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The course is mostly project-based assessment with some units requiring set exams.

You will learn how to analyse systems and develop database solutions for end users. You will learn how to write code, set up and network computers and keep them secure including cloud-based services.

Sheffield is home to some of the top computing companies in the world and so as part of your course you will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of enrichment activities work placement and employer visits. We also work with local companies on ‘live’ project briefs using real life scenarios you would find in your chosen career.

Facilities

The college has developed industry standard facilities in conjunction with a world leading local employer. Students will have exclusive access to their own branded room with the latest software and hardware. Students will wear branded clothing and be an ambassador for the chosen academy employer which will also offer short term work experience and/or long term industry placement on the company premises.

Additional Study and Independent Learning

The course will give you an introduction to the high level skills you will need to succeed in this career pathway, however you are also expected to work independently on further research and assignment work outside of your timetabled classes in college.

Entry requirements
