Course Summary

(UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication)

Equivalent to 3 A Levels

Studying this course will enable you to grow as a creative practitioner within your chosen art and design specialism. You will have opportunities to work alongside professional artists and designers to give you a greater understanding of the creative industry. The creative sectors you will be exposed to range from fine art, fashion design and textiles, 3D design, photography, sculpture and digital media.

Course Details

Themes that are covered are:

Year 1

  • Project 1 - Sculpting the future (three dimensional practices)
  • Project 2 - Rewilding creativity (graphic design principles and moving image experimentation)
  • Project 3 - Activate (fine art approaches)
  • Project 4 - The final major project (specialist practice)

Year 2

  • Project 1 - Unit 4: Researching a Specialist Industry Practice
  • Project 2 - Unit 5: Specialist Technical Skills development
  • Project 3 - Unit 6: The final major project (specialist practice)

A number of specifications will be changing and prospectus entries are based on information we have to date. This means that course content may be subject to change.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Each year starts with formative units, which are designed to give you the space to explore new skills and discover your strengths. Each year ends with a Final Major Project, an extended coursework project which provides you with your grade for the year. There are no exams.

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English or Maths

The UAL L3 Creative Practices course equips learners with the skills and ability to critically think about and question their contextual surroundings whilst developing skills and knowledge that are essential for working in the creative industries and or studying specific disciplines further in a university setting.

The course provides a stepping-stone to an array of creative paths such as fashion design and marketing, graphic design, fine art, photography, illustration, interior and architectural studies. Our students have gone on to study at prestigious Universities such as Goldsmiths in London and Manchester School of Art.
